Hoshyar Zebari

Zebari Hoshyar Zebari Hoschyar or (Arabic هوشيار محمود محمد زيباري Huschyār Muhammad Mahmud Zebari; Kurdish هۆشيار محمود محمد زێبارى Hoşyar Mehmûd Mihemed Zebari, * 1953) is an Iraqi politician and currently Minister for Foreign Affairs of Iraq.

Life

Zebari is Kurdish and fought on the side of the Kurdish rebel against the Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein. He is the uncle of the current President of Kurdistan Massoud Barzani Autonomous Region. He studied sociology at the University of Essex in England. In the 1990s, he was foreign affairs spokesman of the Kurdish Democratic Party and represented them in the UK and the USA.

Zebari was appointed Secretary of State on June 1, 2004 by Iyad Allawi, in agreement with the Iraqi Governing Council subsequently resolved to be occurring on 30 June 2004 Iraqi Transitional Government.

In the run by Ibrahim al- Jafari first freely elected Iraqi government since Saddam Hussein Zebari has regained the post of foreign minister.

On 17 May 2005, the Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi of Iran came to Iraq and met with Hoschyar Zebari. They released together a statement in which Saddam Hussein is blamed for the Iran -Iraq war. Once the relationship of Iraq to Iran was tense even under the Iraqi interim government of Iyad Allawi, this is regarded as historic step between the two countries.

On May 24, Zebari asked the United Nations to extend the mandate for the US-led multinational occupation forces until the election in December 2005 or until Iraq could even provide for his safety.

Zebari was part of a high-level delegation, which also belonged to the Sunni Defense Minister Saadoun al- Dulaimi, who accompanied the Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim al - Jaafari to a historic state visit to Iran on 16 July. There, among other things, the formation of a joint working group on security has been agreed.
