Iraqi Governing Council
The Iraqi Governing Council ( مجلس الحكم العراقي, DMG: Maǧlis al - Hukm al - Iraqi ) was a temporary political body. He was on 13 July 2003, used by the U.S. civil administrator in Baghdad, Paul Bremer, and dissipated on 1 June 2004 by a decision of its members early on.
The Chair of the Governing Council had since the assassination of Ezzedine Salim on 17 May 2004, the Sunni Ghazi al - Yawar Council representatives.
The Presidency changed regularly once a month between nine Council members.
In the 25 - member council, the Iraqi ethnic groups and faiths were represented as follows:
This particular its first act 9 April, the day of the fall of Saddam Hussein, the new national holiday.
The Council was authorized to carry out the following tasks:
- Minister and dismiss,
- To formulate Iraqi politics and steer,
- To fix the budget and
- To draw up a new constitution.
For internal security but still remained the United States responsible.
