Hostelling International

Hostelling International ( HI), formerly known as International Youth Hostel Federation ( Hostelling International ) is the umbrella organization of more than 90 Youth Hostel Associations in 90 countries, operating together about 4,000 youth hostels and hotels. Among them are the German Youth Hostel Association, the Austrian Youth Hostel Association and the Austrian Youth Hostel Association and the Association of Swiss Youth Hostels.

History

The inaugural meeting of the International Association for Youth ( IAJH ) ( IYHF later and still later HI) was held from 20 to 22 October 1932 in Amsterdam, with the participation of eleven European countries: Germany, Switzerland, Czechoslovakia, Poland, the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Great Britain, Ireland, France and Belgium.

In the second Hostelling International Conference in October 1933 in Bad Godesberg Richard Schirrmann was that had the youth hostel movement was founded in 1909 in Germany, was elected its first president. But in 1936 he was forced by the Nazis to abandon the office.

In 2006, the International Youth Hostel Federation ( Hostelling International ) adopted the brand name Hostelling International ( HI). HI has in the UK the status of a non-profit organization. The association has over 4 million members, one of the largest youth organizations in the world.

The aim of the organization is service to travelers and the coordination of national associations. The seat is now in Welwyn Garden City in London.
