Houston Symphony

The Houston Symphony Orchestra is one of the major symphony orchestra in the United States, based in Houston, Texas.

A precursor of the orchestra was founded in 1913 as a small, low-paying ensemble whose musicians practiced making music only as a sideline. By 1916, the orchestra of Paul Blitz was conducted from 1916 until the dissolution of the group in 1918 by Paul mountains.

Subsequent principal conductors were André Previn (1967-1969), Lawrence Foster (1970-1979), Sergiu Comissiona (1980-1988) and Christoph Eschenbach ( 1988-1999 ). Since 2000 Hans Graf has been chief conductor of the orchestra. From the season 2013/14, the Colombian conductor Andrés Orozco- Estrada is designated bandleader to be from the 2014/15 season will receive a five-year contract. Since 1966 the orchestra in the Jesse H. Jones Hall is located in downtown Houston.
