Howard Flight

Howard Emerson Flight, Flight Baron ( born June 16, 1948) is a British politician of the Conservative Party and member of the House of Lords.

Youth and Personal

Flight studied at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. From 1979 to 1998 he was a financial advisor and director in various banks. He is the author of All You Need to Know about Exchange Council (1989 ), and editor of the book The City in Europe and the World ( 2005). Since 1974 he is married to Christabel; they have four children.

Political career

He ran unsuccessfully in 1974 for the lower house in the constituency of Bermondsey. From 1997 to 2005 he was a deputy in the House of Commons for the constituency of Arundel and South Downs. He had several posts in the shadow cabinet: 1999 - 2001 Economic Secretary to the Treasury Paymaster General to 2001, and finally Chief Secretary to the Treasury.

Spending cuts affair

Flight occurred on 24 March 2005 back as deputy chairman of the Conservative Party, after a statement by him came to the public, which had been secretly recorded during a convention of conservatives. He had expressed that it would come under a Conservative government to cut spending significantly more than they said during the election campaign. The Conservative leader Michael Howard Flight dismissed from his post as whip and announced that he would not set up as a candidate for the constituency of Arundel and South Downs in 2005. Flight did not want to accept this, saying only the local union had the right deselect it. On 29 March 2005, he announced that vorläge him an opinion of a Kronanwalts that confirm his view. The local chapter Arundel and South Downs also refused initially to look for a new candidate, but eventually relented. Flight confirmed that he will not compete as an Independent and he is not going to act against his deselection of the local association.

On April 6, he agreed not to stand as a candidate and the party began to look for a new candidate. The established candidate Nick Herbert won in the election.

Flight was placed on the A-List of the Conservatives for the 2010 election. , But it did not arrived to save him a seat. On 19 November 2010 it was announced that Flight for Life Peer levied and eiinziehe for the Conservative Party in the House of Lords. His full title is Baron Flight of Worcester in the County of Worcester.
