Huanca people

The Wanka ( Huanca ) were or are an indigenous people in what is now the department of Junin in Peru. The area was divided into three kingdoms, Hanan Wanka ( Hanan Huanca top Wanka, today's provinces of Huancayo and Chupaca ), Lulin Wanka ( Huanca Hurin, Sub - Wanka, modern province of Concepción ) and Hatun Shawsha ( Hatun Xauxa, wholesale Jauja, modern province Jauja ).

The Wanka built fortified cities in the upper mountain regions whose building had a circular plan and small windows.

Their origin ( paqarina ) led them back to the source ( Pukyu ) Wariwillka six kilometers south of the city of Huancayo. Like other Andean peoples they recognized the divinity Qun Tiksi Wiraqucha as creator of the world. As a local deity ( mountain spirit, Apu ) they worshiped Wallallu Qarwinchu ( Huallallo Carhuincho ), which is described in Huarochirí manuscript as a cannibal and the Wanka after his defeat by Paryaqaqa (mountain Pariacaca ) only dogs sacrificed (it also comes mockingly mikuq Allqu, " Dog Eaters ", called ).

The Wanka a tenacious resistance to the expansion of the Incas, but were conquered by the Inca Pachacutec 1460 Yupanqui. During the conquest, the Wanka rendered the Spaniards support.

The language of the Wanka Wanka Quechua is the ( Quechua: Wanka Nunashimi, Spanish: Quechua Huanca ), a variant of the central branch of the Quechua language family, which was already the language Wankas before Quechua was spoken by the Incas in Cuzco. During the second half of the 20th century, the Wanka Quechua has been state policy of hispanisation ( Castellanización ) displaced (eg ban on speaking in school ), especially in the Mantaro Valley by the Spanish and holds only in mountain areas as everyday language.
