Hubushkia

Ḫubuškia ( Hubuschkia, Chubuschkia, Kubuchkia ) was an Iron Age kingdom in Eastern Anatolia or Western Iran.

Geography

Ḫubuškia was a smaller Iron Age kingdom in the highlands north of Assyria, either in Taurus or on the northern edge of the Iranian plateau. There are basically two localization proposals:

  • Southeast of Musaṣir ( Reade, Hulin, Kinnier Wilson)
  • North or north-west of Musaṣir ( Salvini, Muscarella )

Reade is located southeast of Musaṣir, southwest of Mannai and west of Gizilbunda to. Usually it is assumed in Chaneh Valley at the small upper Zab, south of the Lake Urmia, others move it to the upper reaches of the Great Zab, in today's Yüksekova or to Hakkari.

History

Information about the history of the country are scarce. After Kurkh stele was 858 BC by Shalmaneser III. attacked on a campaign against Arzaškun. After riots followed 856 BC a renewed attack by Shalmaneser III. ( Black Obelisk ). In the campaigns of General Dayan - Ashur against Mannai it was 829 BC sacked again.

Ḫubuškia seems at times to have been part of tabal: Tiglath- pileser III. ( 744-727 BC) boasted to have received the tribute of tabal and calls except Wassurme of tabal, the Great King, Usitti of Atuna, Urbala'a of Tuhana ( Tyana ), Tuhamme of Istundi and Wirime of Ḫubuškia as kings of tabal. Also Adad - nirari III. undertook campaigns against Ḫubuškia, mostly in connection with operations against the Medes. 715 BC it paid tribute to Sargon, maybe it was at this time but already part of Nairi. The King took any event later take part in the campaigns of Rusa.

Language

Own written sources are lacking. According to Levine and Salvini are the names of the rulers of Ḫubuškia Hurrian. Zadok wants to recognize an Iranian name, while he points other than "local" or as Cassite title. Diakonov keeps the name in question for a gutäischen title.

Ruler

  • Wirime at the time of Tiglath- pileser III. , King of tabal
