Hugh Gilbert

Edward Hugh Gilbert OSB ( born March 15, 1952 in Emsworth, Hampshire; civil Edward Gilbert ) is the Bishop of Aberdeen.

Life

Edward Gilbert converted from the Anglican Church to the Roman Catholic Church on December 24, 1970, joined the Scottish Benedictine Pluscarden the Congregation of the Benedictine monks of the monastery entrance in, took the monastic name Hugh, put his solemn profession on 10 March 1979, the Bishop of Aberdeen, Mario Joseph Conti, ordained him a priest on 29 June 1982. He attended among others St Paul's School and received his bachelor's degree in history in 1974 at King's College London. In Pluscarden monastery he was sub-prior in 1984, 1985 and 1990 Prior Novice Master He was elected on 29 October 1992 by the Convention as a successor of Alfred Spencer Abbot and benediziert on 8 December 1992. During his tenure, the monastic community grew to 27 monks.

Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him on June 4, 2011 for the Bishop of Aberdeen. He received his episcopal consecration of the Archbishop of Saint Andrews and Edinburgh, Keith Michael Patrick Cardinal O'Brien, on 15 August of the same year; Were co-consecrators Mario Joseph Conti, Archbishop of Glasgow, and Peter Antony Moran, Bishop Emeritus of Aberdeen.
