Hugo Botstiber

Hugo Botstiber (* April 21, 1875 in Vienna, † 15 January 1941 in Shrewsbury, United Kingdom ) was an Austrian musicologist.

Life

Hugo Botstiber came from a Jewish family but converted in 1897 to the Roman Catholic faith. He studied with Robert Fuchs and Guido Adler, Alexander von Zemlinsky, he took private lessons. In 1900 he joined the staff in the library and in 1905 secretary and office director of the Society of Friends of Music in Vienna. He was from 1912 / 13-1938 General of the Wiener Konzerthaus. He also was a member of the Commission on the publication of the " Monuments of Music in Austria " and was among others in 1904 and 1911, the music carrying out of Austria. After his retirement, he had age-appropriate emigrate to England because of his background after the "Anschluss " of Austria, where he was still working as a private scholar.
