Hugo Montenegro

Hugo Montenegro ( born September 2, 1925 in New York; † February 6, 1981 in Palm Springs, California ) was an American arranger, composer and orchestra conductor.

His talent he developed already during his time in the army. He studied at Manhattan College and worked for André Kostelanetz. In 1955 he went to RCA Records and worked in these functions, inter alia, for Harry Belafonte. Thirteen years he made records with romantic light music, without ever having a hit.

He then went to Hollywood and worked for the film. It was not until 1968 he came up with the idea to specifically adjust the sound and arrangements of his orchestra to the audience taste. He used henceforth electric guitars and a drum set and took the Ennio Morricone - composition - The Good, the Bad and the Ugly for the same Italo - Western ( German Bad and the Ugly ) on, with Manny Klein on the piccolo trumpet. What was unusual at the time, in particular the use of an electric violin as well as the use of a piccolo trumpet and an electronic harmonica. On the ocarina played Arthur Smith, the whistle came from Muzzy Marcellino, this came strange sounds of a singing group.

With this song, which was represented in many international charts and, inter alia, in England number 1 and the U.S., reaching number 2, he created a million-seller and Evergreen. He had further success with his music for the TV series I Dream of Jeannie as well as the music for the Marlboro Country advertising campaign.
