Hugo Staehle

Johann Christoph Ludwig Hercules Hugo Staehle ( born June 21, 1826 in Fulda, † March 29, 1848 in Kassel ) was a German composer of the Romantic period.

Life

Staehle was the son of an officer in the Hessian army. Initially he took piano and violin lessons from Wilhelm Deichert, a pupil of Louis Spohr. From 1839 taught him Moritz Hauptmann ( until his move to Leipzig in 1842 as a result of acquisition of Thomaskantorats ). After that, he became a pupil of Spohr itself, in which he also lived temporarily. Spohr supported him in subsequent years through performance of various compositions. Staehle held in the fall and winter months of 1843/44 and 1844/45 also in Leipzig, where he took lessons alongside captain even with Ferdinand David and pianist Louis Plaidy. Among other things, he joined the acquaintance of Richard Wagner, Clara and Robert Schumann and Niels Gade. Back in Kassel, he joined as a violist in the chapel there. 1848 died Staehle nearly 22 -year-old to meningitis.

Work

The catalog of works Staehle is due to the short life span of the composer is not very extensive, but testifies to a high talent. Hugo Staehle left inter alia Song cycles, piano pieces, a piano quartet, a symphony in C minor (1844 by the Kassel court orchestra premiered ), a concert overture, an opera ( Arria, premiere 1847 in Kassel ) and psalms for voice and orchestra.
