Humberside Airport is located in the English county of North Lincolnshire between the towns of Grimsby, Kingston upon Hull and Scunthorpe. He is a little, the Manchester Airports Group belonging airport. In 2008, the Holding announced to operate the airport for another three to five years.

The airport is in competition with the neighboring East Midlands Airport, Doncaster / Sheffield, and Leeds / Bradford; all three airports offer here compared to the Humberside Airport a wider range of flights. Overall, 2008 427.648 passengers were handled, a decrease of 8.7% compared to 2007. Thus occupied the airport rank 33 of the largest airports in the UK.

Due to its low usage fees, the airport has a very high proportion of general aviation. It is the basis for helicopter flights to natural gas platforms in the North Sea.

History

Today's civilian airport was originally built in the Royal Air Force in 1941 as a military airfield RAF station Kirmington, short RAF Kirmington of Bomber Command during the Second World War. A first equipped with Wellington squadron moved in October 1942 to the base. At the longest, from January 1943 to November 1945 was the 166th Squadron here. This was also initially equipped with Wellingtons, but upgraded in September 1943 at the Lancaster. The plant was mothballed in 1945 and 1953, initially transferred to the Ministry of Agriculture. They lay dormant until 1970.

Then it was re-opened after a four- year renovation period, as Kirmington Airport. As short time later, the area was renamed Humberside, the airport was renamed Humberside Airport. The former runway 3/21 (now 02 /20) was expanded in 1992 to its current length in order to make them usable for larger aircraft.

The airport can be reached from the west via the M180 to Barnetby, where the nearest train station to the airport is located; from there we are on the A18 for a further 4 km to your destination.

Mondays to Saturdays there is an hourly bus service to Grimsby and Hull.
