Hundsburg (Hessenwald)

The Dog Castle is a 334 m high mountain in the eastern foothills of the basement Forest, the natural space Hesse forest, between Kersten Hausen and Kleinenglis, both districts of Borken in the northern Hessian Schwalm- Eder-Kreis. It forms the northern flank of the Schwalm gate, in which the Schwalm from the Löwensteiner reason ( natural area 341.7 ) in the Schwalmaue ( natural area 343.21 ) occurs. On the southern bank of the Schwalm of Cow Mountain, a north-eastern foothills of the Old Castle, the southern flank of the Schwalm gate forms.

On the summit plateau of the mountain can be found in the northeast faint remains of former ring walls and ditches; these go to the northwest into a terrace which is only weak, but can still be seen well in the west to the south. Finds of pottery sherds probably from the Hallstatt period suggest its use as a pre-Christian Fliehburg.

During the construction of the road from Fritzlar by Kersten Hausen 1803-1804, now part of the federal highway 3, below the castle dog several barrows and burial urns were found.
