Hypanthium

The flower cup or hypanthium is a cup-shaped or tubular structure at the base of the flower in bloom. At the base of the flower- cup or under it sits the ovary. The other flower parts are attached to the top of the flower cup.

The term was first used in 1824 by Heinrich Friedrich Link. The term Hypanthium means " below the blossom ." This can be explained by the fact that earlier the petals for the actual flower were held.
