Hypsidoris

The Hypsidoridae are an extinct family from the order of catfish -like ( Siluriformes ) and the only family of the superfamily Hypsidoroidea. The family is known by finds of two types of layers of the middle Eocene: Hypsidoris farsonensis from Wyoming and Hypsidoris oregonensis from Oregon.

The animals have, in contrast to all living today except the primitive catfish catfish teeth on a well-developed maxillary bone. They have a Supraoperculum on the gill cover and six infra- orbital bones. The caudal fin has 17 primary jets.
