Action

Gene Garrison is a professor from New York City who wants to change his life and the plan has to marry his girlfriend and move to California. His mother Margaret understands his desire to move, but warns him that such a further departure could be painful for his father Tom.

Shortly before the marriage dies Genes mother Margaret. His sister, who was rejected by her father because she married a Jewish man, Gene advises to live his own life and not to be checked by the father.

Awards

At the Academy Awards 1971 No song for my father was nominated for three Academy Awards: Best Actor Melvyn Douglas, Gene Hackman as Best Supporting Actor, as well as Robert Anderson for best adapted screenplay.

Melvyn Douglas was also nominated in 1971 for a Golden Globe for best actor in a drama and a Laurel Award. Robert Anderson finally won the Prize of the Writers Guild of America for Best Adapted Screenplay.
