Ian Axford

Sir William Ian Axford ( January 2, 1933, Dannevirke, New Zealand, † March 13, 2010 in Napier, New Zealand) was a New Zealand astrophysicist. Ian Axford was from 1974 to 1990 director of the Max Planck Institute for Aeronomy. Since 1986 he was a member of the Royal Society London, and in 1996 he was raised to the peerage.

The asteroid ( 5097 ) Axford was named after him.
