Ian Kirkham

Ian Kirkham ( born March 9, 1963 in Liverpool, England) is a saxophonist and member of the band Simply Red Today he is one of the world's best saxophonists.

Life

Ian Kirkham grew up in Preston (England). At the age of five and a half years, he took his first piano lessons. At age eleven, he began his training on the saxophone. He has played in several big bands and jazz groups, including the helical axis and the image.

In 1986 Kirkham joined the band Simply Red, in which he made ​​music for 22 years. In addition to alto, tenor and soprano saxophone, among other things, he plays EWI (Electronic Woodwind Instrument), clarinet, flute and piano. He is best known for his technically demanding solos, which are characterized by a warm and expressive sound.
