Ibero-American Summit

The Ibero -American Summit (Spanish: Cumbre Iberoamericana; Portuguese: Cimeira Ibero- americana) are a forum for concertation of Heads of State and Government of 20 Ibero-American States, the European countries of Spain, Portugal and Andorra. These countries are members of the so-called Ibero-American Conference of Nations (Spanish: Conferencia Iberoamericana de naciones ). The aim of the meeting is to consider international challenges and to promote cooperation, coordination and solidarity in the region.

The summit took place annually from 1991 to 2013. Given the declining interest - the XXIII. Ibero -American Summit in October 2013 there were only 12 present of 22 heads of state - decided the XXIII. Summit, from now on only meet every other year.

Secretariat

Since 2005, the conference has an Ibero-American General Secretariat ( Secretaría General Iberoamericana - SEGIB ), which is led by Uruguayan Enrique Iglesias. Headquarters of the General Secretariat is the Spanish capital of Madrid. Official and working languages ​​are Spanish and Portuguese.
