IBEROSTAR Hotels & Resorts is an international hotel operator. With currently 90 hotel facilities in 16 countries, the company is active.

History

The company was founded in 1956 by Lorenzo Fluxá Figuerola, when he opened a small travel agency with 40 employees under the name Viajes Iberia. Due to the prevailing economic situation and the emerging tourism in Spain, the company grew rapidly.

After several years Fluxá Miguel took over the line and then in 1973 founded the tour operator Iberojet opened up further incoming agencies named Iberotravel in the United Kingdom. Other agencies opened under the name Visit U.S. in America to take care of the guests of Iberojet. 1986 hotel resorts in Mallorca and the Canary Islands, were opened for the first time then. Thus, the hotel sector was entered for the first time.

In 1993, the first resort of the newly created IBEROSTAR Hotels & Resorts has opened in the Dominican Republic. This was also the first 5- star resort of the company. In 1998, the charter airline Iberworld was founded. A little later, the company Iberojet Cruceros was added. It specialized with two cruise ships on the Spanish market.

In 2004 the company achieved a turnover of 828.1 million Euros with 54 490 beds, 15,600 employees and 500 travel agencies. In the same year, the company founded the IBEROSTAR Foundation. The still active today Foundation supports disadvantaged people and their cultures in many countries around the world.

In 2006, the company sold many of their own brands. Including the tour operator Iberojet, the airline Iberworld and the cruise operator Iberojet Cruceros. Also the travel agency Viajes Iberia network was made to focus on the business of the hospitality industry.

Then the new Grupo IBEROSTAR consisted of the following three divisions: IBEROSTAR Hotels & Resorts, the flagship of the Group; IBEROSTATE, the new division, which specializes in the construction of holiday homes and villas within the IBEROSTAR hotel complexes; IBEROSERVICE, of the 4.5 million travelers annually cared for.

In the next step, the so-called " The Grand Collection " has been introduced. These are hotel facilities that demonstrate a minimum of 5 Stars.
