IBM System Object Model

The Object Model ( SOM) is a system developed by IBM ( in the later versions of CORBA- based ) extension of the operating system to an object-oriented and distributed platform ( DSOM ) for applications. SOM was also available for other operating systems, including Windows NT, MacOS, and AIX, and formed the basis for OpenDoc. SOM is similar in concept to the Component Object Model (COM ) from Microsoft.
