Ibn Shaprut

Schemtow ibn Shaprut ( Shem Tob ben Isaac ibn Shaprut ) of Tudela was a Jewish physician and scholar of the 14th century.

He is best known as an apologist: He disputed 1375 in Pamplona with Pedro de Luna and wrote ( 1380 released ) the ewen Bochan ( " Touchstone " ), a fictional dialogue between a Jew and a confessor of the Trinity, ( later Pope Benedict XIII. ) a compendium of Jewish apologetics. The first 9 chapters largely follow milchamot of Jacob ben Reuben, the final directed against Alfonso de Valladolid. Chapter 12 contains Hebrew translations of passages of Matthew's Gospel and critical comments.
