Ibrahim Edhem Pasha

İbrahim Edhem Pasha (* 1818 in Chios, Ottoman Empire, today Greece, † 1893) İbrahim Ethem Pasha or was under Sultan Abdulhamid II on 5 February 1877 to 13 January 1878, the Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire.

Life and origin

It is believed that Edhem was of Greek origin and has come either as a slave or by adoption into the custody Koca Mehmet Pasha Husrev. His high intelligence gained him the attention of Sultan Mahmut II, who sent him to study in Paris. There, he became the first modern Turkish Mineral Engineering.

He was the father of Osman Hamdi Bey, İsmail Galip Bey and Halil Edhem Eldem.

Edhem was to the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Turkey, according to Mason.
