Ibrahim Lipumba

Nguyuru Haruna Ibrahim Lipumba ( born June 6, 1952 in Ilolangulu, Tabora Region, Tanzania) is an economist and politician of the Civic United Front (CUF, Chama Cha Wananchi ).

Lipumba doctorate in 1983 at Stanford University in Economics, where he also received his Master of Arts. At the University of Dar es Salaam, he completed his studies.

Lipumbas interests are in economics, especially international trade and finance, macroeconomics, development economics and agriculture. His career led him to the economic adviser to several governments - even in Uganda in the late 1980s and 1990s. In addition Lipumba works in the field of education. He has taught as a professor at institutions in Tanzania, the United States and Scandinavia.

Since 1995, Lipumba additionally engaged as head of the opposition party Civic United Front (CUF ). As leader of the CUF Lipumba was twice ( 1995 and 2000), presidential candidate for his party. In early October 2012, he announced that he wanted to compete again at the next election in 2015 because he was the only one who can lead the country back to its original unity.

In the presidential elections in Tanzania in 2010 Lipumba won with 8.3%, the third largest force after he had last made ​​in 2005 or 11.7%.

Ibrahim Lipumba is married and a sports enthusiast. He has passionately played football until a knee injury prevented him from it. He now supports the Tanzanian national team Taifa Stars and the team of FC Arsenal.
