The parliamentary elections in Iceland in 2007 took place on 12 May 2007. In choosing the 63 members of the Althing were redefined.

The election brought a victory for the Independence Party of Prime Minister Geir Haarde.

185 071 Of the 221 368 eligible voters voted, representing a turnout of around 83.6 %. 2909 or about 1.6 % of the votes were invalid.

Specifically, gave the following results:

Government formation

Prime Minister Geir Haarde of the Independence Party ended after 12 years, the coalition of the Independence Party and the Progressive Party. Together with the second largest party, the Social Democratic Alliance, the Independence Party formed a grand coalition.

Foreign Minister was Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir of the Alliance, Finance Minister Árni M. Mathiesen was of the Independence Party.

End of the reign

In the course of demonstrations in winter 2008/2009 the Icelandic government resigned in the spring of 2009, after which early elections on 25 April 2009 announced.
