Idriss Carlos Kameni

Idriss Carlos Kameni (born 18 February 1984 in Douala ) is a French- Cameroonian footballer on the position of the goalkeeper. Kameni has both the French as well as the Cameroonian nationality. He came at the age of 15 years to France.

Career

Club career

Kameni learned the game of football in the youth team of the French second division club Le Havre AC. In the summer of 2004 he moved for a transfer fee of 550,000 euros as a goalkeeper for the Spanish side Espanyol. Since 2012 he plays in the southern Spanish football club FC Malaga.

National team career

So far, played Kameni 55 caps for the Cameroon national football team (as of 1 July 2010). Kameni debuted on May 25, 2001 in the match against South Korea in the senior national team of his native country. At the Summer Olympics in Sydney in 2000, he was 16 years old the youngest Olympic champion in football in the history of the Games. In the penalty shoot-out against Spain Kameni Cameroon secured the first Olympic gold medal in the history of the country.

In the 2002 World Cup Kameni was as a substitute for Alioum Boukar in the squad. In 2003 he reached the final of the Confederations Cup Cameroon. At the Africa Cup 2004, he resigned as defending Cameroon in the quarter- finals from. Kameni was voted Africa's Goalkeeper of the Year 2004.

In 2008 he was second in the African Cup. He defeated Cameroon in the final 0-1 against Egypt. In the 2010 World Cup he was in the squad but did not play.
