IEEE 802.11p

IEEE 802.11p is a published standard in July 2010 to extend the IEEE 802.11 standard to establish the wireless technology in passenger motor vehicles and a reliable interface for applications of Intelligent Transport Systems ( engl. Intelligent Transport Systems, ITS) to create. The Working Group 802.11p is the result of the activities of 802.11a.

802.11p is regarded as the foundation stone for Dedicated Short Range Communication ( DSRC ) in the frequency band from 5.85 to 5.925 GHz. It is a project of the U.S. Department of Transportation on the basis of the European CALM system. To avoid confusion with the European version of CEN DSRC, rather the term ITS -G5 is used instead of DSRC, especially in Europe.

The aim of the new wireless standards for intelligent transport systems are mainly applications in the field of cooperative systems.
