Ignazio Bedini

Ignazio Bedini SDB ( * June 27, 1939 in Prignano sulla Secchia at Sassomorello, Modena, Italy) is an Italian religious priests, missionaries and the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Isfahan.

Life

After joining the Order of the Salesians of Don Bosco, he asked 18 years later, to be allowed to go on mission. He was first sent to Lebanon to complete there in Beirut his philosophical and theological studies. After four years he moved to Tehran. He was ordained in Gethsemane (Jerusalem) on 21 December 1969 priests. He returned to Iran, where he worked as a teacher and chairman of the Salesian College.

On December 2, 1989, Pope John Paul II appointed Archbishop of Isfahan and donated him on January 6, 1990 at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re and Archbishop Miroslav Stefan Marusyn. Bedini resides in Tehran.

He was from 2003 to 2008 and again from 2011 Chairman of the Iranian Episcopal Conference, although he is the only member of the Latin Rite, while all other members of the Armenian and Chaldean rite.
