Igor Levitin

Igor Levitin Jewgenjewitsch (Russian Игорь Евгеньевич Левитин; born February 21, 1952 in Zebrykowe in Odessa, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union ) is a Russian politician. From May 2004 to May 2012 he was Transport Minister in the Government of the Russian Federation.

Levitin graduated in 1973 from the Leningrad Military School for railway troops and initially went through a military career in the railway troops of the Soviet Army, he was stationed, among others, in the Ukrainian SSR, in Hungary and in the Baikal- Amur Mainline. In 1983, he graduated from the Military Academy of Logistics and Transport from an engineering degree.

Levitin 1994 left the army with the rank of colonel. In 1998, he was Deputy Director General of Sewerstaltrans, the transport company of Metallurgy Group Severstal.

On 9 March 2004 Levitin was appointed minister for telecommunications and transport, since 20 May 2004, he was Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation. This office he held until May 21, 2012, when the new government under Dmitry Medvedev was sworn. He was succeeded by Maxim Sokolov. He is also executive chairman of Aeroflot and CEO of the airport Sheremetyevo.
