Iguanodectes

Iguanodectes is a genus of small, slender tetras, which occurs widely in northern South America ( Guyana, the Amazon basin ).

Features

The Iguanodectes species are slender, elongated fish reach body lengths from 4.6 to 10.3 inches. The dorsal fin is short and begins approximately over the center of the body, the anal fin is very long. The lateral line is complete. The premaxillary bone ( premaxilla ) is staffed with incisor -like, mehrspitzigen, flat teeth that are arranged in two rows. The maxilla is short staffed and with one or two teeth. From Piabucus, the only other genus of the subfamily Iguanodectinae to Iguanodectes differs by the non- keeled belly.
