Ike Shorunmu

Ibrahim Ikechukwu "Ike" Shorunmu ( born October 16, 1967 in Lagos ) is a former football goalkeeper from Nigeria. He was keeper of the Nigerian team at the World Cup 2002.

Club career

Shorunmu played at various clubs in his Nigerian homeland; In 1996 he went to Switzerland, where he played for FC Zurich. In addition to 87 league games Shorunmu also completed two matches in the UEFA Cup. After three years in the National League A overtook him Beşiktaş Istanbul in the Süperlig, but he could not prevail with the Turks. He first went back to Switzerland for FC Lucerne and then played three years at Samsunspor. After a short stint at the Young Fellows Juventus in Zurich he was goalkeeper coach of the Nigerian national team.

National

Under coach Clemens Westerhof Shorunmu was admitted to the Nigerian national team in 1992. He played for his country in the World Cup qualifying matches in 1994, 1998 and 2002. In Japan and Korea, he belonged to the squad of the Super Eagles and came in two of the three games used.
