The Ile Perrot is an island in the southwest of the Canadian province of Quebec. It lies at the mouth of the Ottawa River in the St. Lawrence River, between the Lac des Deux Montagnes in the north, the Lac Saint -Louis in the south and the Île de Montréal in the east. The island is 41.92 km ² large and thus the third largest in the Hochelaga Archipelago. It is approximately 11 km long and up to 4.8 km wide, the highest peak is located at 55 m above sea level.

Geography

On the island are the four municipalities L' Ile- Perrot, Notre -Dame-de -l'Île - Perrot, Pincourt and Terrace Vaudreuil, which together count 37,399 inhabitants ( 2011). They are part of the regional municipality of Vaudreuil - Soulanges and owned by the community association Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal.

The Ile Perrot consists mainly of quartzite of the Cambrian; square blocks of this hard rock can be found on most of the island. The soil is a loamy- sandy podzol, which has formed on acidic and nutrient-poor glacial till. In places, there are more nutrient-rich but poorly percolating Gleyeboden. Large areas in the center and southeast of the island is forested.

Traffic

A total of six bridges leading onto the Ile Perrot. They are all located in the same corridor in the northwest of the island, connecting the Vaudreuil - Dorion on the mainland with Sainte -Anne- de -Bellevue on the Île de Montréal. This corridor is also the main route between Montreal and Toronto. About the Pont Taschereau (in the west ) and the Pont Galipeault (in the east ) the auto route 20, one of the main highways of the country. In parallel, run two railway lines of the Canadian National Railway and the Canadian Pacific Railway.

Backbone of public transport is a railway line suburb of Agence métropolitaine de transport, which leads from the Montreal station Lucien- Vaudreuil - Dorion and L'Allier by Hudson; on the island itself there are two train stations. The bus operation CIT La Presqu'Île assumes the detailed indexing.
