Ilie Savu

Ilie Savu ( born January 9, 1920 in Cornăţelu, † November 16, 2010 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian football player and coach. The goalkeeper twice won the Romanian championship with Venus Bucharest. As a coach, he won with Steaua Bucharest in the seasons 1965/66 and 1966/67, the Romanian Cup.

Playing career

The career of Savu began in 1934 at the age of 14 years at Prahova Ploieşti in the second Romanian league, the Divizia example, early in 1937, he joined the giants Venus Bucharest, with whom he the seasons 1938/39 and 1939/40, with the winning the Romanian Cup was able to complete. After the game operation Divizia A due to the Second World War had been set, he joined in early 1943 UF Hunedoara.

In the summer of 1947 Savu joined the newly formed army club AS Armata Bucharest ( Bucharest later CSCA ). With CSCA he won in 1949 and 1950, twice the Romanian Cup, did not come in the finals, however, are used. After the 1950 season, he ended his active career.

Coaching career

After the end of his active career Savu worked as a football coach. In the summer of 1954 he was appointed as successor Francisc Ronnay first coach of his former club CCA Bucharest. He led his team in the 1954 season to the runner-up behind Flamura Roşie UT Arad. Halfway through the season 1955 he had to vacate his seat for Ştefan Dobay, which he assisted in the season 1956 when winning the Romanian championship. In the following season Savu was again responsible as head coach for CCA and finished the season in 1957/58 with the runner-up spot behind Petrolul Ploieşti.

In the season 1960/61, Savu in charge of the first team of his former teams Corvinul Hunedoara in Divizia A, but the team was relegated as a Table. In the summer of 1964 Savu was the third time coach of Steaua Bucharest. In the 1965/66 season he struggled with his team against relegation, but in the same year won the Romanian Cup. This success was repeated a year later. Then Savu was replaced by Ştefan Kovács.

In the 1976/77 season and in the first half of the season 1978/79 Savu supervised again Corvinul Hunedoara, before he was replaced by Mircea Lucescu.
