Ille-sur-Têt

Ille -sur- Tet (in Catalan Illa ) is a commune in the department of Pyrénées- Orientales in the Languedoc- Roussillon region. Ille -sur- Tet is located at the foot of the Pyrenees, south of Tet, on the N116, about 25 km west of Perpignan. The community currently has an area of 31.6 km ² 5303 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011). This number is almost unchanged for decades.

Biggest attraction is the Orgues, a striking rock formation. The rocks are five million years old, which date from the Pliocene in the Tertiary. They consist of sandstone and clay. At the time, the Tet, the material from the Pyrenees deposited here and formed a large plateau. This has since been washed away by rain water, resulting in the resembling organ pipes rock needles. As the erosion continues, this attraction has no existence in the future.
