Ilmari Hannikainen

Toivo Ilmari Hannikainen (* October 19, 1892 in Jyväskylä, † July 25, 1955 in Helsinki) was a Finnish composer.

The son of Pekka Juhani Hannikainen studied from 1911 to 1914 at the University of Helsinki. He was then a student of Franz Schreker at the Vienna Music Academy, 1915-1917 by Alexander Siloti in Saint Petersburg and in 1919 by Alfred Cortot in Paris. He worked then as a piano teacher at the Conservatory and later a professor at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.

He composed an opera, a piano concerto, a piano quartet, a number of impressionistic piano pieces and songs.
