Ilya Grubert

Ilya Grubert ( Ilya Grubert also; born May 13, 1954 in Riga) is a Latvian violinist.

Life and career

Ilya Grubert began his violin studies at the Emīls Dārziņš Music School. At the age of fourteen he continued his studies with renowned Russian violin teachers as Jankelewitsch, Gilels and Kogan at the Moscow Conservatory. 1975 Grubert has been awarded internationally at the Sibelius Competition in Helsinki. In 1978 he won first prize in the Tchaikovsky Competition and the Geneva Paganini competition. Grubert has performed with many renowned orchestras such as the Moscow Philharmonic, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Dresden Staatskapelle, the Russian State Symphony Orchestra and the Helsinki Philharmonic and toured many countries such as the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan and throughout Europe. He lives in the Netherlands and teaches at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
