History

Imagination Technologies was founded in 1985 as a video Logic Limited. At that time the focus was on the development and marketing of multimedia products for PCs, so that the product range consisted mainly of graphics cards and special video accelerators.

In July 1994, the company went public. On 18 November 1996, the company then brought together with NEC with the NEC PowerVR PCX1 the first 3D graphics chip, the PowerVR series on the market. Video Logic had developed the appropriate technology, NEC manufactured and sold the finished graphics chip and video Logic in turn sold appropriate graphic cards of the Apocalypse series.

On 31 August 1999 Video Logic was then renamed Imagination Technologies and a restructuring of the company known: The graphic development was spun off as a subsidiary called PowerVR Technologies while established a subsidiary under the former name Video Logic Systems that with the sale of products technologies from Imagination Technologies was responsible. Imagination Technologies acted from now on as a holding company and provided the appropriate cooperation between the subsidiaries.

On March 23, Ensigma has been specializing in the development of DSPs, and taken as a third subsidiary ( Ensigma Technologies) the company incorporated. Since Ensigma is more specialized on the development of communication technologies, the subsidiary Metagence Technologies was founded for the further development of general DSPs on May 3, 2001.

Having had shifted over time, the focus of graphics products more towards general audio products, we decided to rename video Logic Systems in PURE Digital on July 15, 2002. Video Logic is now just a brand name for some products from PURE Digital. Since early 2008, the company acts only under the name of Pure.

In November 2012 was the purchase of Imagination Technologies MIPS Technologies for 60 million U.S. dollars known. In addition assumes Imagination Technologies 82 patents Mips Technologies that are directly related to the MIPS architecture. For 350 million dollars go the remaining 498 patents to the Bridge Crossing LLC which include ARM Limited, a direct competitor to PowerVR heard.
