Imar of Tusculum

Imar of Tusculum or ICMAR of Tusculum (c. 1105/1110, France, † October 28, 1161 in Cluny ) was a French Benedictine and cardinal.

Life

Imar occurred at 1126 in the Cluniac monastery St- Martin-des -Champs, but soon changed to Cluny. Then he was appointed Prior of Charite- sur -Loire. To 1141/42 it is demonstrated as abbot of Saint Moutierneuf to Poitiers.

Probably on March 13, 1142, Pope Innocent II appointed him cardinal bishop of Tusculum. As such, he wrote papal documents dated April 19, 1142 to March 7, 1159th 1144/45 he served as papal legate in England. Since 1153 he was Cardinal Dean ( prior episcoporum ).

In September 1159 he took part in the conflicting papal election; he stood on the side of Victor IV and consecrated him on 4 October 1159 Farfa. He signed the documents of the anti-Pope from February 15 1160 to February 19, 1160. Then he went as legate to Cluny, won this important monastery for Victor IV, and remained there until his death. On April 7, 1161 he is mentioned for the last time as alive and died in the same year.
