Impalila Iceland (also Mpalila Iceland ) is a river island in the Zambezi River in the extreme eastern part of the Caprivi region in Namibia. It is with almost 18 km ² the largest island of Namibia. Impalila extends a maximum of eleven kilometers in length and four kilometers in width.

Impalila is accessible only by air or by boat from Kasane in Botswana from. The island has a private airfield and a border crossing to Botswana, the only registered safari company is open.

It is home to, among others, the Tswana and Subia. The local population goes especially fishing. In addition, the island is mainly of interest for tourists. There are several very luxurious accommodations that offer, among other things boating, watching the wildlife. Impalila and the surrounding waters and areas are home to the Big Five, from, among others, hippos and up to 450 species of birds. The island is crisscrossed by countless labyrinthine waterways, many areas are swamps and floodplains.

On Impalila is both a primary school and a police station.

Geography

On the north bank of the Zambezi is Zambia, Botswana on the south bank. The state borders follow the thalweg of the northern and the southern river arm. The nearby, much smaller river island Kakumba Iceland, 100 meters to the southeast, is the easternmost land area of Namibia. 345 meters northeast of the easternmost country of Namibia point the triangle Zambia - Namibia - Botswana is located in the Zambezi. 45 meters further east in the river is the border triangle Zambia Zimbabwe Botswana. This area is considered by many sources as the only true four-country corner of the earth.
