Imperial Furniture Museum

The Imperial Furniture Collection in Vienna is a furniture museum and one of the world's largest museums for home decor.

The museum can be seen today mainly furniture of the Habsburg monarchs. Furthermore, the museum offers an overview of the history of Viennese furniture and interiors, by the imperial court supplier to the famous artists of the early 20th century, Adolf Loos, Josef Hoffmann and Otto Wagner, who have the (living) architecture of Vienna marked.

The main house is located in the Andreasgasse 7 in the 7th district of Vienna new building.

History

1747 the first Hofmobilieninspektor was entrusted with the inventory, care and transportation of the courtly furniture inventory of Empress Maria Theresa. From 1809 this court service was designated Hofmobiliendirektion and was also responsible for the Neuankauf the imperial furniture. 1901, the present building of the Imperial Imperial Furniture Collection was built on Mariahilferstrasse 88 as a central warehouse for the left hand not in use furniture with attached garages and carriage houses. Since the Habsburg furnished them their residences and castles in accordance with the style of the time and their own aesthetic preferences, so reached 160,000 objects in the exhibition. After the end of the monarchy in 1919, the entire imperial furniture hand fell into the possession of the Republic of Austria. Part of it was and is used for representation purposes, such as for the official premises of the Federal President.

Collection

To see today are a variety of original furniture of the Habsburgs, the commode to the imperial throne. Even today, strange -looking exhibits such as the mandatory one hundred years ago spittoons are seen.

Even Austrian furniture designers and architects of the 20th century are represented.

Current use of the collection

All Federal Minister of the Republic of Austria can to equip their law firm, cover furniture from the depot for the duration of their term of office. Even in embassies furniture is sourced from the depot, just use the original furniture for film companies shooting.
