An Independent Software Vendor ( ISV ) is a software company, develops and markets of application programs independent of the suppliers of major software platforms such as Microsoft, IBM, SAP and Oracle. " Independent Software Vendor " is therefore a broad term for a large part of the software manufacturer.

For ISVs, there is the possibility of their software certified by the manufacturer of the respective platform and thus check their compatibility and to confirm the rule.
