The submarines of project 940 ( Lenok; NATO code: India ) is a submarine class of the Soviet Navy. The units are driven conventionally, their task is to support search and rescue operations for crews sunken submarines. To this end, the boats with two rescue submarines (Deep Submergence Rescue Vessel ) are fitted, which are located in two loading bays behind the tower. This can DSRV 500-1000 m deep diving and can accommodate 24 passengers and a crew of three.

The India- boats are equipped with extensive medical devices, including pressure chambers and medical fields to treat several dozen people at a time can. However, the boats takes on the role of a carrier vehicle for the DSRV in the first place.

Two units of the class were built in mid -1970s and 1990 removed from the fleet list. Both were discontinued in 1995.
