Individual Computers Catweasel

The Catweasel controller is a special floppy disk controller, which allows almost any disk format is readable and writable.

The Catweasel provides a connector for floppy drives Shugart bus (including normal PC floppy drives ). In contrast to the standard PC floppy controller of the Catweasel is freely programmable and therefore allows to process unusual disk formats. With its help can be, for example, floppy disks from the Commodore C64, Commodore Amiga, Apple II and also from the old Apple Macintosh to read and write.

The only formats that are not usable with this controller are those that use a non-standard track spacing, such as the 100 - thread-count format of the Commodore SFD1001 drive. This also helps the best controller nothing, as can not be the traces of these formats to a PC floppy drive hit exactly.

Model

Catweasel ISA

For PC, Alpha AXP and BeBox. Alpha AXP drivers are only available for Linux. Only I / O addresses are occupied, the hardware does not require DMA and IRQ.

Catweasel MK2

The MK2 exists for the Amiga 1200 and Amiga 4000. During A1200 connection to the clock port of the A4000 and it is looped into the IDE port. If the hardware connected to the A1200 clock port, it is possible for the I / O module " hypercom 3 plus" to connect to the local expansion port of the Catweasel MK2. For the backup software Diavolo there is an update to be able to create backups ( 2380 KB per disk) on XTRA HD disks.

Catweasel ZII S-Class/Catweasel ZII MK2

The Zorro Catweasel combines the products Buddha ( IDE controller for all Amigas with Zorro slots ) and Catweasel MK2. The Buddha has another IDE port.

Catweasel MK3 PCI / Flipper

PCI card for PC, Mac and AmigaOne. Flipper means that the card is a flip- card. In addition to the 5 -V PCI connector is on the other side of a connection for the Zorro slot. Additionally, there is the possibility for connection to the clock port of the A1200. Two connectors for digital joysticks and paddles are (9 -pin Sub -D connector ) on the map. An original SID chip can be used by Commodore C -64 on the map. An additional circuit allows the MK3 with newer SID chip ( 8580 ), the output of the fourth voice that could be activated in older SID chip ( 6581 ) only with a software trick. If the MK3 connected to the internal CD input of a sound card, the fourth voice is issued on request on a separate channel. The MK3 uses the Commodore 8701 chip for the clock.

Catweasel MK4 (plus) PCI

The card has become smaller with 63.5 mm height in comparison to its predecessors and thus holds the low-profile PCI standard one, which can be important for flat computer case. It is in contrast to the MK3 only option for connection to PCI. There are many new features added, such as support auto -eject drives without its own eject button, as used in the Apple Macintosh. There are two PS/2-connectors, for example, mouse and keyboard. The CD ³ ² gamepads are fully supported, as well as a second SID chip, the MK3 can only accommodate a SID chip. The MK4 is also designed for 3.3 -V PCI slots.
