Inflanty Voivodeship

The Livonia Voivodeship (Polish WojewĂłdztwo inflanckie ), also known as Polish Livonia, was an administrative unit in the Kingdom of Poland - Lithuania, which was formed in 1621 from the Province of turning the Duchy of Livonia and until the First Partition of Poland in 1772 had stock.

The province was after the war against Sweden 1621-1629 remaining in Poland Rest of Livonia, which had arrived in 1561 under Polish suzerainty. From the Polish side, the Swedish supremacy over the other parts of Livonia was only recognized in the Treaty of Oliva in 1660.

The province retained the status of the Duchy of belonging to none of the halves of the kingdom of Poland-Lithuania, but a condominium to be both.

Seat of the voivode was Dyneburg ( Daugavpils, Daugavpils lett ).

The main part of the province reflects the current landscape of Latgale in Latvia, which is traditionally Catholic, unlike the rest of the country because of their longer belonging to Poland.

The area Pilten ( lett Piltene ) of the former Bishopric of Courland was administered as part of the Duchy of Livonia 1617-1656. From 1717 began the Polish-Lithuanian direct rule over the Duchy of Courland again. During this time, the area of ​​the Voivodeship of Livonia was administered.
