Ingerman of Hesbaye

Ingram was a Frankish Count the late 8th century. He is best known as the father of Empress Ermengarde, the second wife of Louis the Pious.

About his life is not much known more about his background. Ingram comes from a high noble family from the Haspengau at Liege. He was a nephew of Chrodegang, Bishop of Metz (c. 715, † 766 ), and thus a grandson of Chrodegang parents Sigramn and Landrada. Landrada turn, is attested as a sister of Robertiners Cancor, 745/778; † witnessed by 782, and thus the daughter of Robert I, 722/757; † before 764, seen.

However, this filiation creates chronological problems:

  • Ermengarde (* 775/780, † 818), whose father was
  • Ingram, whose uncle was
  • Chrodegang (c. 715, † 766 ), whose parents were
  • Sigramn and Landrada, whose father
  • Robert ( * 722/757 testifies; † before 764 ) is attributable to the generation of more Chrodegang and thus may be poorly whose grandfather.

Schwennicke proposes an alternative before a second filiation, at Robert by his grandfather Chrodobertus (Robert ) is replaced who testifies 653-678, but this year 678 is already a widower. Unless a second marriage is postulated Landrada would thus be at the birth of Chrodegang around 40 years or older, which in turn seems doubtful biological reasons.
