Ingi Højsted

Ingi Højsted ( born November 12, 1985 in Tórshavn ) is a former Faroese football player who played for the national team and had to end his career early due to a number of serious injuries.

Clubs

Højsted began in youth in B36 Tórshavn. After good performances in the youth team of B36 2001 he moved to Arsenal. The midfielder was allowed to accumulate only in the youth team there as well, this period was characterized above all by injuries. In 2005 he returned to his homeland to B36 Tórshavn. His debut for the senior team, he was in the second round of the Cup with a 4-1 Ausswärtssieg against Skala ÍF, the game was, however, subsequently counted as lost. In the first division he graduated as master players almost all games, he celebrated his debut on the opening day at home to NSÍ Runavík, which was lost 0-1. His first league goal he scored on the 17th match day home game against GÍ Gøta. He hit in a 3-1 win to make it 2-0. Direct in his first season he was among other things on the side of Fróði Benjaminsen, Jákup Mikkelsen, Allan Mørkøre, Mikkjal K. Thomassen and Pól Thorsteinsson celebrate the championship.

Late 2005 signed a contract with Birmingham City Højsted, so he was the first Faroese player who was in the squad of a Premier League club. There, however, he could not prevail and played in four months only half time for the reserve in a 4-0 victory against Manchester United. After several clubs showed interest, including Ipswich Town, where he completed a trial, he decided in April 2006 for a return to B36 Tórshavn. In just his second game, he suffered a knee injury and had to pause more than a year. In 2008 he was injured in the Cup again at the knees and fell for several months. After he did not play in 2009, he returned the following year, again to the football back and did again a few games for the first and second team of B36 Tórshavn. In 2011 he arrived in the majority of games from B36 to use and won together with Jákup á Borg, Atli Danielsen and Súni Olsen the championship. A year later, he was only in the match for the Supercup against EB / Streymur, which was lost with 1:2 for use and had thereby leave the field after 20 minutes. As it turned out later, the cruciate ligament was torn and been made a career end in sight due to the third knee injury. The game for the Super Cup was his last deployment.

European Cup

Seven times Højsted played in the UEFA Cup. He made his debut in 2005/ 06 for B36 Tórshavn in the first leg of the first qualifying round against ÍB Vestmannaeyja, which ended 1:1 away. By a 2-1 second-leg success to the next round could be achieved in the B36 against FC Midtjylland with 1:2 and 2:2 had left behind. In the first leg defeat Højsted achieved with the Anschlusstor to 1:2 his first of two European Cup matches. The last appearance in the UEFA Cup, he had 2008/ 09 in the second leg of the first qualifying round against Brøndby IF, which was lost 0:2 and 0:1 after the first leg defeat meant the resignation.

National

Højsted played a total of six times in the Faroese National Team. He made his debut on 29 April 2003 in a friendly against Kazakhstan in Tórshavn, as he was substituted at half time when the score was 0:1 for Jákup á Borg. The game was won 2-1. With an age of 17 years and 5 months, he is the youngest player to ever used for the Faroese national team. His last game he completed on 15 October 2008 in a World Cup qualifier against Lithuania, which was lost in Kaunas 0-1. Højsted came in the final ten minutes for Símun Eiler Samuelsen used.
