Ingvar Carlsson (rally driver)

Ingvar Carlsson ( born April 2, 1947 in Nyköping, † October 28, 2009 ) was a Swedish rally and racing driver.

Carlsson played his first rally in 1968 and took 1974-1994 to a total of 42 rounds of the World Rally Championship ( WRC) in part. He was able in 1989 with a Mazda 323 4WD Group A win both the Swedish Rally and the Rally New Zealand, with which he marked the most significant achievements of his motorsport career. In both rallies was his co-pilot, the Swede Per Carlsson, who was, however, not related or related by marriage to him. In addition, the Mazda team in 1988 had already secured the overall win at the Rally Australia, which, however, still had no World Rally Championship status this year.

1995 and 1996 took Ingvar Carlsson part in the FIA European Rallycross. In his first full EM- season he formed together with the 4- times Olympic champion Gunde Svan a team ( Christer Bohlin Motorsport), both drivers piloted a Toyota Celica 4WD each of the group N. During Svan at the end finished third in the championship in 1995, Carlsson finished fifth. The following year, the former cross-country skier had finished his Rallycross activities and Carlsson was fourth in the Championship Series, before he too retired to an overall victory in the final stretch on the Estering in Buxtehude from the Rallycross scene.
