Inherit the Earth: The Great Search ( orig. Inherit the Earth: Quest for the Orb ) is an adventure computer game in the point-and- click style of 1994 It was developed by The Dreamers Guild, the English version was New World. computing, distributed by German soft gold.

The English original was designed for DOS and ported to the Mac. In Germany the game came in December 1994, initially as a DOS version out and then was ported and published in Germany for the Amiga. Commercially did not have the DOS version a the hoped-for success.

Joe Pearce, a co-founder of The Dreamers Guild, published with his new company The Wyrmkeep Entertainment porting the English version for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows, after he got the rights in 2002 with a long delay. According to Joe Pearce, the new edition serves as financing for a planned successor.

The cardboard first editions are relatively rare today. Widespread received the game by a new edition in the magazine " Bestsellers Games" - issue 10 from the Trend Verlag ( 300,000 copies) in 1996.

Since the characters of the game are anthropomorphic animals, it is popular with many followers of the furry fandom.

After Joe Pearce granted the ScummVM developers insight into the source code of the game, ScummVM supports the game in versions for MS- DOS, Linux, Mac OS, Mac OS X and Windows. The Amiga and CD32 versions are not supported.

Content

In a far future, people have left the earth and the earth is populated by talking, human-like animals that live in a rather medieval world. In the opening credits allusions are made to the disappearance of the people.

Rif the fox stealing the ball storm is accused of a legacy of humanity with which the weather can be predicted. To prove his innocence and to free his girlfriend Rhene that is long imprisoned, he sets out with the boar and elk Okk Eeah in search of the ball.

You encounter in their search for traces of people, mostly their buildings.

The game was originally supposed to be a trilogy, was then changed to the current version.

Gameplay

The whole fable adventure shines here in a cartoon -like look. Many of the more than 300 rooms are decorated in the usual Adventure style. The game is controlled entirely with the computer mouse. The puzzles are compared to other adventure games are not too difficult.
