Inhotim

The Centro de Arte Contemporânea Inhotim (Centre for Contemporary Art Inhotim, also: Instituto Inhotim ) is home to a collection of contemporary art from Brazil. It is located in Brumadinho ( State of Minas Gerais ), a town with 30,000 inhabitants, only 60 km from Belo Horizonte.

Created in 2004 to house the collection of businessman Bernardo Paz, it makes it from works from 1970 to the present. The central exhibition building was designed by the Brazilian architect Rodrigo Lopez Cerviño. The collection consists of 450 works by Brazilian and foreign artists with an emphasis on works by Cildo Meireles, Vik Muniz, Hélio Oiticica, Paul McCarthy and Zhang Huan. The area is 300,000 square meters.

The exhibition is embedded in a large garden, in their design were received, among other suggestions of Roberto Burle Marx. In the outdoor area, surrounded by native forest, two sculptures by the artist Adriana Varejao will be exhibited as well as the mahogany boat by the British artist Simon Starling.

Open Tuesday to Sunday and on holidays, Inhotim offers themed tours and instructive tours for school groups should register in advance.
