Features
Macroscopic characteristics
The Schillerporlinge form annual, resupinate ( the substrate present ), effus reflexes ( with protruding Hutkanten the substrate present ) or bracket-like fruiting bodies, which may be stalked sitting or weak. The surface of the fruit body is usually yellowish to brown in color, it can be bald or hairy, a hard surface crust is missing. The fruit layer is Roehrig, the tubes are not stratified, the pores small. The flesh of the fruit body is at an early state juicy, soft and rust to dark brown color, dry it is hard and brittle and relatively easily. KOH stained the fresh meat black. The tube layer of Schillerporlinge generated in fresh fruit bodies depending on the light a changing ( iridescent ) silver shine through yellow -brown ground.
Microscopic characteristics
Microscopically, the Schillerporlinge are characterized by a monomitische Hyphenstruktur, the generative hyphae are colorless to yellowish, clasps missing, in the fruit layer may be present brown, conical - pointed apical setae or setale hyphae, some of which are hook-shaped curved. The basidia are short, ellipsoid - clavate, colorless and viersporig, a Basalschnalle missing. The spores of Schillerporlinge are spherical or short elliptical and smooth, they are somewhat thick-walled and inamyolid ( with Jodreagenz not blue discolouring ). The spore powder can be white, yellow or brown.
Ecology
The Schillerporlinge are saprobiontische or parasitic wood dwellers who infest deciduous or coniferous woods depending on the type and produce a white rot in the infested wood.
System
The Schillerporlinge are closely related to the fire sponges, are the perennial fruiting bodies with dimitischer Hyphenstruktur. Some studies suggest that both species can not be separated from each other and either merge into a common genus Phellinus in the broader sense or are separated into several smaller genera.
Species
The genus in the broad sense includes about 60 species worldwide. In Europe, the following species occur or are expected there:
Dripping Schillerporling ( Pseudoinonotus dryadeus )
Gnarled Schillerporling ( Mensularia nodulosa )
In addition to fruit shape of the Leaning Schillerporlings ( Inonotus obliquus )
Importance
Some Schillerporlinge are harmful as wood destroyers and parasites of fruit or park trees, as mushrooms do not come into question.
